Women in Tech week 2019

Women in Tech Week 2019 is well underway and promises to be a great event. This Conference has been created to inspire, celebrate and connect women working in this sector. Women in Tech is an organisation network for promoting technology careers for women. Its member companies understand the virtue of diversity and encourage open discussion and sharing of knowledge among women and men working in the technology industry.

The whole week is dedicated to Women in Tech events, culminating in a Women in Tech Forum – an international one-day event held on the 11 October 2019 in Finlandia Hall, Helsinki. This time, Women in Tech Forum is organised under the theme “Impact Our Future”.

ITSM Zone is an organisation firmly within the IT sector and we are lucky to buck the industry trend on women, with 60% of the company shareholders being female. As an educator we believe in the power of knowledge, but this alone won’t take you to the places you want to be. We wanted to share some of our thoughts about being women in business and what the #Impactourfuture” theme means to us.

Claire Agutter

Job title: Director, ITSM Zone, Chief Architect, VeriSM

Role: I’m the founder of ITSM Zone. I started the company in 2007 to make service management training widely accessible around the world. At the time, we were purely focused on ITIL and I couldn’t have anticipated the changes we’d see with the rise of DevOps, Agile, and Lean IT. My role is very varied, ranging from course production to presenting, content creation and working with the amazing service management community. I’ve also been involved in writing books including the SIAM BoK (available for free on the Scopism website) and acting as Chief Architect on the VeriSM project to document an approach to service management in the digital age. I love to travel and meet new people, so I’m very fortunate that my role comes with a lot of that!

We’ve got a majority female team at ITSM Zone and I love working with all of them. As a virtual company, our team can work flexible hours which makes dealing with childcare and other commitments much more simple. As long as the job gets done, I don’t mind when people do it. I love to see more and more high profile women in tech, and I’ve got absolute heroes that I follow online including Dr Sue Black, Charity Majors and Bridget Kromhout. I believe diverse teams offer a range of viewpoints that lead to better creativity and better results.

Kirsty Unila

Job title: Operations Manager for ITSM Zone

Role: My role is heavily focussed on business development and the success of the partner program; it’s a very varied role and no two days are the same. I love that I have the opportunity to work with a brilliant team and with so many great customers and organisations all around the world.

I truly believe that we need to encourage the “next generation” to learn and achieve all that they can in their chosen fields. We can help by supporting, mentoring and coaching, especially young women in STEM or those who are breaking stereotypes. We need to empower the young women of today, so that they have the opportunity to become the power of tomorrow.

Job Title: Education Portfolio Manager

Role: I come from an education and multimedia background, so I was thrilled to become part of the dynamic, creative team at ITSM Zone. My role involves working on course production, presenting at Service Management events, content creation and ensuring all our courses are industry focused, forward facing and meet the needs of our customers. I love that my position has opened up the opportunity for meto travel and form lasting relationships with people from all over the world. I believe that it is important to be visible and a role model for those wanting to embark on a career in IT.

We can push for progress by embracing new ideas, even if they seem daunting at first, and striving for change in both the professional and personal aspects of our lives. I am fortunate enough to work for an organization that strives to be innovative and forward thinking and enables me to work flexibility, share ideas and embrace opportunities. I believe that continuing to set challenges to improve builds confidence and opens doors both for myself, my team and the IT industry.

Jelena Todorovska

Job title: Customer Service Team Leader

Role: I started working at ITSM Zone little bit more then a year, and I’ve been in the customer service branch/role for more than 7 years. Customer service representative is the link between the customer and the company, and it plays a big roll for the success of the business.

My role involves working with lot of people, and working with people is something that I love, but it’s also one of the toughest things to do.Our clients are from all over the world and me and my support team get a chance to listen to them, advise, resolve any issues and ensure customer satisfaction. Timely attention to issues raised by customers is of a big importance.  You won’t always get a happy customer but doing your best to help them out is what it counts. “The customer doesn’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.

Progress is something everybody strives for. It means a change towards something better. I have watched my team and company grow during my time with them. They share and embrace new ideas, they are openminded, hardworking, fun, positive and they strive for success. There is no doubt in my mind, I’m in the right place.

Ivana Trajkovska

Job title: Marketing executive, ITSM ZONE

Role: Since September this year, I am a part of the ITSM Zone team as a marketing executive. Even so I am the newest member, still it feels like a family. As a marketing executive my role is to oversee many aspects of a campaign throughout the entire lifespan of a product, service or idea. I am thrilled about the prospect of working with the team, as well as sharing together content ideas, creations or social media strategies in order to highlight the benefits of learning new skills and adopting the company ethos of lifelong learning.

So far, I am happy to say that I have seen my role grow. It is a blast to be surrounded with majority female team who is the most committed, talented and treasured. Women who understand the vision of the business, but most importantly believe that education is the right way to encourage the young generation. Each of them brings a unique skill and flair to the team and they make going to work each day an absolute pleasure. I always say a woman alone has power; collectively we have impact.
