US Cybersecurity Provided by NIST’s COBIT 5

ISACA has advanced cybersecurity for the US with the development of COBIT 5. Due to the ever-increasing threat of cyber threats, presidential executive order EO 13636 began a collaborative effort to improve security, resilience and provide framework to align business and government policies to address cyber risks. During the development of COBIT 5, NIST’s held a series of workshops to gain perspectives from experts of the field including: US Department of Homeland Security, Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council, universities, critical infrastructure owners and operators as well as other organizations and outside experts. NIST will present the latest US cybersecurity in April at ISACA’s 2014 North American Computer Audit, Control and Security Conference.
As well as presenting COBIT 5 in April ISACA will release the guidelines to implementing the newly developed framework which includes standards, procedures, processes and methodological approaches to addressing cyber risks later this year. Meenu Gupta states, “COBIT is now serving an important role supporting the nation’s cybersecurity direction.” Meenu continues by explaining, “Leaders from around the world collaborated to ensure COBIT 5 is timely, relevant, and practical for today’s enterprises, and NIST’s inclusion of it further demonstrates that COBIT can truly transform an enterprise’s cybersecurity initiatives.” With such an innovative framework it is crucial to obtain a competent workforce to implement policies.
There is a large global skills gap in cybersecurity professionals especially those whom understand business practices. As a result, ISACA recognizes the need to develop qualified and skilled individuals and provides educational trains and certificate programs.
