If you are planning on taking any form of ITIL 4 qualification or certification at any point in your near future, then you need to know about recent updates from Peoplecert. Peoplecert are the owner, accreditor and examiner of ITIL and other best practice products.
In 2022, Peoplecert announced some changes that will be introduced next year.
We start with a rise in exam prices that will be implemented on the 1st January 2023. This will mean that the cost of an ITIL 4 Foundation exam with the mandatory core guidance eBook will be $399 when purchased from us (currently $349). There is a similar rise in the pricing for the higher-level exams too.
Then, on the 1st April 2023, the price of a foundation exam will rise again to $464, as Peoplecert are mandating that anyone buying the exam can only do so if they purchase the core guidance eBook and a courseware guide. While this may be welcomed for students who want to self-study; we’re questioning how much real value is added for students taking eLearning courses. This feedback has been provided to Peoplecert, and we’ll update this blog if a response if received.
“Also new to the ITIL scheme will be the requirement to recertify; successful candidates who have qualified in the latter part of 2022 no longer hold a qualification that doesn’t expire. We know that taking higher level ITIL 4 courses will ensure that the Foundation certification remains valid, but for those who only want or need a Foundation qualification, there will be a requirement to pass an additional exam every three years, or to demonstrate they have taken CPD. There’s more information on recertification in our newest blog.
The ITIL 4 Foundation will be an expensive entry level exam and we have no doubt that it will continue to be listed as a requirement for many of the ITSM job roles that are advertised. So, our advice if you are taking the exam is to ensure that you know your material; we really do see MUCH better pass rates from candidates who have studied an official course. Complete the available sample exams and contact your tutor if you’re not getting the result that you want on those. If you are not a confident exam taker, even if you feel fully prepared, then it might be worth considering adding a Take 2 option when purchasing the voucher. This will give you an additional attempt in the event of a fail, without having to buy another voucher.
