ITIL 4 - Your Options and Opportunities
ITIL 4 launched at the beginning of 2019, building on the content of ITIL v3, bringing ITIL into the digital age and including more practical guidance to help organizations tailor an IT management strategy to help them to adapt to the increasingly complex modern service environment.
This latest version of ITIL has more focus on concepts like value, outcomes, costs and risks, as well as a very strong focus on continual service improvement. Some of the core ideas like incident management, change management, and problem management remain, but ITIL 4 gives a much more holistic view.
If you’re wondering where to start on an ITIL 4 learning journey, then you may want to consider the following options. By taking accredited ITIL 4 certification, you’re showing that you are keeping your knowledge up to date and relevant in order to meet the challenges of working in a digital age.
ITIL 4 Foundation
ITIL 4 Foundation is your starting point if you currently don’t have any ITIL qualifications, or if you hold only the V3 Foundation.
Studying the ITIL 4 Foundation means that you’ll be introduced to the management of modern IT-enabled services and will learn the language of IT service management.
The course will take you through service management key concepts, ITIL principles, the ITIL service value system (SVS), ITIL practices and their role in a service provider organization; helping you to improve your work and the work of your organization.
This course will also be a pre-requisite for higher level ITIL 4 courses, as and when they are released.
Fast Track to ITIL Managing Professional
If you already hold the ITIL V3 Foundation and one or two V3 Intermediate qualifications, then the Fast Track to ITIL Managing Professional program will help you to use your existing V3 credits to qualify as ITIL 4 MP.
This cost effective program gives you access to all of the V3 Intermediate courses, so you can take what you need to achieve a required 17 credits, before being eligible to take the Transition to ITIL Managing Professional course. This transition course will be added to your training account when available; this is expected to be in October 2019.
Transition to ITIL Managing Professional
If you are currently an ITIL Expert, or if you hold 17 or more V3 credits, then you are eligible to transition your qualification.
This course will provide you with an understanding of new ITIL 4 concepts and definitions, as well as the key differences between ITIL 4 and previous versions of ITIL. It will also provide an overview of key elements from the four ITIL MP modules: Create, Deliver and Support, Drive Stakeholder Value, High Velocity IT, and Direct, Plan and Improve.
This standalone course is expected in October 2019 – you can sign up to be notified as soon as the course is available.
ITIL and ITIL 4 Exams – an Important Note
From 1st November 2019, it will not be possible to purchase ANY ITIL training without the relevant exam. This is a change to the scheme rules, as mandated by AXELOS and Peoplecert (the scheme owner and the Exam Institute). So, if you want to spread the cost by purchasing training one month, then the exam later, you’ll need to make sure the course is purchased before this date.
