The dictionary defines agile as ‘being able to move quickly and easily’. Organizational agility refers to the ability to react to changes and make course corrections, and has led to the creation of agile working methods which include:
- Working in short stages or sprints
- Frequent feedback and assessment
- Adaptation of plans
Organizations don’t become agile overnight, but you can start making some positives changes today. Educating yourself is a great first step, so here are some useful ideas:

Take some training
When you’re ready to learn in a more structured way, training courses can help you to evolve your thinking.
Certified Agile Service Manager (CASM) training can help you to apply agile thinking to the processes and structures in place in your IT department. There are many different Agile training courses and schemes, so do some research to find the one that will best meet your needs.
Get into the community
Many cities have agile meetups where you can meet other practitioners and share ideas. Take a look online and get started.
You might ask “what happens if we don’t want to be agile?” Well, we’ve all heard about so-called dinosaur organizations who have failed to evolve. You might miss an opportunity, you might lose business…your competitors might take your business away. No organization can afford to stand still, and a focus on agility can help you continually improve.
